Formation of expert councils to advise Ministry At least four new councils will be set up to look into all fields relevant to the Ministry of Energy, Science, Technology, Environment and Climate Change (MESTECC).
Its Minister, Yeo Bee Yin, said that the councils will stand as an advisory branch to the Ministry where members will provide technical expert views on the relevant subjects.
She announced, MESTECC is looking out for experts, including those who have retired, to contribute their experiences and expertises to the councils that should be set up in the near future.
âThis Ministry is very technical compared to other ministries because we are dealing with science and technology,â she was quoted recently by a local English daily.
âMy Deputy (Isnaraissah Munirah Majilis) and I are not experts in all of these fields, so we need to have an advisory council for each field: energy, science and technology, climate change, and environment.
âThere will be no allocation for these councils, so members will have to carry out their national duty (for free),â she clarified.
MESTECC has taken over the roles of three ministries under the previous government – the Science, Technology and Innovation Ministry; the Energy, Green Technology and Water Ministry; and the Natural Resources and Environment Ministry.
Yeo, the youngest woman minister in Cabinet, is also the Pakatan Harapan Youth Vice Chairman and DAPâs National Assistant Publicity Secretary.
She is a chemical engineer by profession.
